The Town of Trinity is a small outport community that was believed to have been settled in the late 1500s - early 1600s. Originally a migratory fishing summer station it has held significant importance in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador. Sir Richard Whitbourne held the First Court of Admiralty here in 1615 and claimed that Trinity Harbour was "...the best and largest harbour in all the land." Trinity was also the site of the first smallpox vaccination administered in North America, this was completed by Rev. Dr. John Clinch.
Today Trinity is a small, tranquil outport community where numerous visitors come during the tourism season of May to October to visit historic sites, see a play by our professional theatre company Rising Tide Theatre, hike our trails, take a boat tour or simply enjoy the architecture and quaintness of the village.
Come visit with us, relax, enjoy and fall in love with our Town. We promise your first visit will not be your last.
