The Country Corner Restaurant and Gift Shop treasures the heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the historic town of Brigus, The Country Corner serves Newfoundland food with pride, and highlights Newfoundland products, including books, CDs, knits, and pottery in the gift shop.
Daily specials include a fresh cod chowder or a soup and sandwich special. Both are served with a hot tea biscuit. For a limited time each summer, homemade moose stew is served with a hot tea biscuit.
We use only the freshest ingredients in our soups, chowders, buns, cookies and desserts that are made fresh daily in our own kitchen. All the meats for our sandwiches are cooked fresh in our own kitchen. We do not use processed meats.
In our gift shop you will find a large selection of Newfoundland-made souvenirs and handicrafts, in addition to pictures by Newfoundland artists. We carry an excellent selection of books by local authors, Newfoundland CD’s, pottery, knitting, crochet, candles, Christmas ornaments, and T-shirts. We also carry a large selection of linens, cotton nighties and crochet tops. For a special treat take home some of Newfoundland’s famous dark tickle jams, tea, or sauces. Anything you choose from our store is sure to please.

The premises were originally built in 1914, when it housed the Bank of Nova Scotia. It was purchased in the early 1930's by the late J. W. Hiscock (grandfather of the present owner) as the centre of his Labrador fish business. It remained as an office for the company of J. W. Hiscock Sons Limited until the early 1970's when the office was moved to their new fish plant on the water front. The Country Corner opened for business on June 15, 1993.
